MANAGEMENT REPORTING, KPIs and BI SYSTEMS

Client: Group FD of £1bn FTSE250 business
Issue: Excel-based reporting, budgeting and forecasting systems not suitable for further business growth.
Solution: Established reporting and other requirements in a User Requirements Specification. Used this for initial demonstration assessment of all leading BI systems, incluidng IBM Cognos, Hyperion, SAP, Infor, Qlikview and several others. Held "Proof of Concept" sessions with three short-listed suppliers to establish the most appropriate solution. Planned implementation phases and related amendments to accounting system. Provided design for system and helped with implementation.
Benefits: Effective solution backed by the reporting team that will need to continue the implementation.
 
Client: FD of £100m group of businesses
Issue: CEO and divisional directors not getting the management information they required.
Solution: Carried out Management Information Review. Interviewed the directors of each business unit to identify and develop their key reporting requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - both for results and business drivers. Pulled this together into a specification document for the entire business. Reviewed a range of potential Business Intelligence (BI) solutions and recommended a shortlist.
Benefits: Strong foundations laid for project, and now moving forward swiftly.
 
Client: CEO and Group FD of £10m AIM-listed business
Issue: Not getting management information from well-known package to control business basics, and management had lost confidence in the system. Business expected to triple in size internationally.
Solution: Compiled "User Requirements Specification" covering current and future needs. Used this to assess current system, alternative support arrangements, and alternative systems.
Benefits: Underlying issues were clarified, existing system confirmed as suitable, and appropriate management information constructed.
 
Client: FD of £50m corporate subsidiary
Issue: Not taking advantage of supplier rebates
Solution: Wrote a report linking sales orders to purchase orders that was used to claim rebates of some £600,000 per annum.
Benefits: Doubled company profits.
 
Client: FD of AIM-listed start-up
Issue: Basic monthly management accounts was a time-consuming manual process
Solution: Designed new management reporting pack, including KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), updated electronically from accounting system
Benefits: Monthly accounts produced quickly and reliably, with a better view of the business for the Board
